Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have looked to strengthen their defensive department with the signing of veteran defender Mario Booysen on a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old central defender formerly of Ajax Cape Town was unveiled by the Soweto giants who also earlier signed attacker Lebogang Manyama.

Booysen will add competition for places in a so far leaky Amakhosi defence that has shipped in five goals in four Absa Premiership fixtures.

Head coach Giovanni Solinas confirmed that he was looking to strengthen his defence by ringing back Lorenzo Gordinho who is on a season-long loan at Bloemfontein Celtic after costly errors by Daniel Cardoso.

The signing of Booysen comes as somewhat of a surprise signing after the defender suffered relegation with the Urban Warriors in the previous campaign.

Chiefs' latest signing could also mean that football manager Bobby Motaung has failed to bring Gordinho back to Naturena after Celtic disputed their request saying that there was no early recall clause in the loan deal.
