Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs legend Lucky Stylianou believes that Amakhosi midfielder Willard Katsande did not get credit for his performances for the club in 2016/17.

Stylianou, who made history in 1978 when he became the first white player to don the famous black and gold jersey, believes that Katsande deserved more for his efforts.

Katsande failed to win a gong at Chiefs' end of season awards ceremony.

"He's Mister Reliable, your bread and butter player," Stylianou said on the club's official website.

"If Willard doesn't play, Chiefs often struggle, especially in the middle of the park.

The former defender added that the campaign was poor by Chiefs standards as no trophies were brought back to Naturena.

He added, "To go two seasons without winning a single trophy. That's not what Chiefs is about. It was a very average season in comparison to the history of the club."

In 1979 Stylianou won the Mainstay Cup and another handful of trophies during the early 1980s, while in 2009/10 he served as the club’s technical manager of youth development.
