Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo said he was absolutely gutted to see Amakhosi lose the Nedbank Cup final to TS Galaxy.

The Glamour Boys were humbled 1-0 by the National First Division outfit courtesy of a late penalty from Orlando Pirates loanee Zakhele Lepasa.

The result was the death knell of what was a disastrous season in all competitions as coach Ernst Middendorp's men finished without a trophy and ended outside the top eight.

As such, Khumalo, who starred for Chiefs between 1987 and 2004, expressed his disappointment at the current state of affairs.

He told Soccer Laduma: "Look, it is not for me to say much about what it meant to the club's die-hard supporters who travelled all the way to Durban, and those watching from home, with high expectations.

"I know it is a very, very, very hurtful situation. Dominating the supporters at the stadium, with the pedigree of players they have at their disposal, I thought they were supposed to clinch the title, but it wasn't to be.

"That's just how the game is and you might think it is going to be a walk in the park for you, and it just doesn't happen that way. The game has evolved and it is unfortunate that Chiefs couldn't emulate their English counterparts, Manchester City, who made sure to kill the game off against Watford and went on to win 6-0.

"How often do you hear of a cup final scoreline like that? That said, what City did is how you should handle playing against lower division teams because the longer the game remains goalless, the more confident they become."
