Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen are the first recipients of the league's 2017/18 monthly awards.

Khune has been in inspirational form for his club as well as for the national team.

Domestically, he picked up three Man of the Match awards in succession against Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows during August and September.

According to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the Amakhosi goal-minder 'produced an impressive display and kept his team together during this time. He also stood out for his leadership qualities which saw him lead the Naturena-based side from the back.'

Larsen meanwhile has guided Arrows to second position on the table after beating Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits away from home, as well as recording wins over AmaZulu and Platinum Stars, while remaining unbeaten in seven league games.

"The judging panel were impressed by the continuation of the exciting display his [Larsen] team produced last season, keeping the core of his team, smartly managing to blend youth and experience well and grinding out victories despite the little resources at his disposal," read a statement from the PSL.

Larsen beat off the challenge of Cape Town City boss Benni McCarthy and Kgoloko Thobejane, who is in charge at Baroka FC.

Khune meanwhile beat Arrows striker Lerato Lamola, Cape Town City captain Robyn Johannes and Baroka FC's Gift Motupa to his award.

The Players and Coach of the Month awards were chosen by a panel of judges consisting of members of the media and football analysts, which was convened by analyst and former renowned striker, Marks Maponyane.
