Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela bemoaned his team's lack of defensive solidity in a nail-biting 3-2 win over Maritzburg United on Saturday.

Amakhosi snatched a last-gasp winner through Lorenzo Gordinho when it appeared the match was headed for a draw at the FNB Stadium.

The defending Premiership champions gave up a two-goal lead after Willard Katsande and Camaldien Abraw put them ahead in the first half.

Goals from Tamsanqa Teyise and Evans Rusike levelled the scores before Gordinho grabbed the winner in stoppage time.

"First-half we could have had opportunities to wrap it and again win we gave away a lead, allowed them to come back and we conceded soft goals," said Komphela.

"But yet again, as a coach, there's one thing that you have to do. You've got to move into the acceptance zone, where you say it is what it is, but find a way to get out of it.

"One thing that we could not get right...any team that plays the diamond system is vulnerable on the side by virtue of the midfield being narrow, and for whatever reason we failed to take an understanding from that theory."
