Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has been impressed by the early season form and attitude of midfielder Hendrick Ekstein.

The 25-year-old showed good flashes of brilliance in the Carling Black Label Champions Cup against Orlando Pirates last month.

He continued his good run of form when Chiefs took part in the FAME Charity Cup, where they lost in the final on penalties to newly promoted side Baroka FC.

"He's always been a good player and still is a good player," Komphela told Vodacom Soccer.

"It is only that now that he's starting to be more serious and you can see the amount of work he has put into it.

"I'm sure everyone has seen what he can give and it only benefits us."

Ekstein started last season in impressive fashion, but he fizzled out midway through the season.

He ended up featuring in ten league games and scoring one goal, which came in the first match against Maritzburg United in the MTN 8.

Chiefs will open the new PSL season away at Bidvest Wits on 23 August.
