Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela admits that he ripped his pants which made him leave the field of play for nearly five minutes.

The former Free State Stars head coach disappeared for a brief moment in his sides 3-2 loss to Cape Town City in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash at the Cape Town Stadium.

Komphela revealed that his pants got torn which had him seated for several minutes before he fled from the technical area to change his pants.

"Things happen in football, the only thing is that I'm lucky that I normally carry two pants. I am wearing a different pants now," said Komphela.

"The other one just got buggered, with the intention, intensity and all that the pant just got torn, and I had to go and change pants. It's not the same fabric, it's different stuff.

"That's the name of the game. Maybe, again, the gods are telling me: this is out of the ordinary. So I had to go into the dressing room and change the pants, and when I got back they said, 'hey we missed two other clear chances'.

"When I came back I said how many did we miss because I knew there was action going on, and that was that. And you're saying as a man, let me go down, but I'm going down with pride."
