Cape Town - Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen could not hide his delight after his youthful side secured a top-eight finish on the final day of the Premiership season.

Arrows had to come from a goal down to record a memorable 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates and secure a place in the MTN8 next season, for the first time since 2008/09.

Larsen felt the last-minute winner from Knox Mutizwa was exactly what Abafana Bes'thende deserved, after occupying a top-half position for most of the campaign.

"I'm just happy for the players," he told reporters after the game.

"I'd say for three quarters, even more than three quarters of the season, we were in the top-eight, and it'd have been bitter pill to swallow had we not finished inside.

"I thought my players were terrific with the effort they gave this season. I keep saying, we've got a young and an ever-improving team and, based on today's performance, the signs are there that this team can only get better.

"I'm very happy for the young players and the impact they're making. But we've got a long way to go to be the team that we know we can be... a long, long way.

"But you can never fault our team for effort regardless of the results. I'm just happy that they've been rewarded with their effort."
