Cape Town - George Maluleka believes South African teams should follow Orlando Pirates' example and make their mark in the CAF tournaments this season.

Chiefs look set to breeze into the next round after their 4-0 first-leg victory over Comoros Islanders Volcan, where they will face off against Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas.

Going into their second-leg tie against Volcan, Maluleka admits they were inspired by their fierce rivals to take the competition more seriously after Pirates managed to reach both the CAF Confederation Cup and African Champions league finals in recent years.

"We've always backed them when they played out there, and in those finals," he told Sowetan Live.

"And we also have wanted to do that as Chiefs. As one of the biggest teams in Africa it would be a very good thing to leave such a legacy. It takes so much out of a team and Pirates have done it.

"It's up to other teams to take up some of the slack too. We need to approach the second leg much like we did the first. We don't want to take anything for granted."
