Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs striker Edward Manqele intends to force his way back into the starting line-up after falling down the pecking order.

Manqele was a regular in the first half of the season but has not made an appearance in Chiefs' last nine matches.

The 28-year-old was last in Amakhosi's starting line-up in the 3-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout final in December.

"Look, Abraw has been doing well lately so what I need to do is support him because you can't fix what is not broken," Manqele told KickOff.

"So I'm just working hard and hoping that my chance will come. If you check I think I've gone about four of five games not playing and obviously the fitness is low and confidence is going down also. But I have to keep myself motivated and push harder and hope my chance will come."

Manqele's struggles were in the spotlight after he missed a penalty in the goalless draw in the Multichoice Diski Challenge against Orlando Pirates.

"Chiefs is a big team and there is always expectations. You could see I missed the penalty and the fans were of top of me.

"It is up to you as a player how to deal with it, because if you let it get the better of you the confidence will go down and you won't be able to play again."
