Cape Town - Maritzburg United came from a goal down to secure an emphatic 4-2 victory over Cape Town City in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Tuesday night.

It looked for a while as if City would return to winning ways until goals from Sibusiso Masina, Mohau Mokate and Siphesihle Ndlovu saw Maritzburg United storm back in the second-half.

Maritzburg were first out of the blocks with Bevan Fransman testing Shu-Aib Walters with a fifth-minute free-kick.

Both sides though were looking lively from the off and were trying to get forward quickly in search of an early goal.

And it was Cape Town City who took advantage of a 17th minute corner, with Masina connecting well with header that left Richard Antwi no chance in the Maritzburg goal.

Fransman so nearly leveled five minutes later, only for City to scramble the ball off the line, before Mokate pulled his 32nd minute effort wide of the mark.

A couple of changes from the Team of Choice at the interval saw Evans Rusike and Ndlovu replace Yazid Atouba and Denis-Danso Weidlich, and while City brought Aubrey Ngoma on for Ayanda Patosi, it was United who struck next.

Pogiso Sanoka matched Masina as he buried his chance from a Maritzburg corner with 54 minutes played.

And with City still reeling from conceding, they soon found themselves trailing to a 64th minute goal from Mokate from a good finish from a swift counter.

Mokate was clearly in the mood, and was rewarded by some good play from his side when he buried another chance just four minutes later.

City introduced Lyle Lakay for Lehlohonolo Majoro and Nana Dwomoh Akosah-Bempah for Masina and Fransman was unfortunate to get in the way of a Lakay strike on 87 minutes from outside the box, only for Ndlovu to add a fourth for Maritzburg for a 4-2 victory.
