Cape Town - Maritzburg United striker Andrea Fileccia has revealed how he feared for his career after suffering knee ligament damage last season.

The Belgian was injured playing for Free State Stars in January and has only recently returned to first-team duty after a move south to KwaZulu-Natal.

He played for the first time in seven months when United kicked off their league campaign against Bloemfontein Celtic, with coach Ernst Middendorp giving him 45 minutes of game-time.

He says he has recovered well from the injury, although there were times when depression was creeping in.

"I didn't do any work for two months and I was just lying on bed there back home in Belgium," Felliccia explained.

"I use to see the doctors and physios, but it was tough both mentally and physically. It was harder to take because I was playing so well for Free State Stars.

"But I just had to push myself to come back."

Felliccia was the amongst the leading scorers in the Premiership at the time of the injury.
