Johannesburg - Former Orlando Pirates and FC Porto goal poacher Benni McCarthy has once again revealed his ambitions of taking the Buccaneers coaching position in the future, citing that the Soweto giants will always have a special place in his heart.

The all-time leading goal scorer for Bafana Bafana is currently working as an assistant coach for the Belgian First Division side Sint-Truiden VV.

McCarthy retired from professional football at the end of the 2012/13 season after playing a significant role in guiding the Pirates to their second consecutive treble, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

The 2004 UEFA Champions league winning striker, with FC Porto, insisted that he will always be part of the Ghosts family and in the future he wants to be at their helm.

“You know what they say? Once a Pirate will always be a Pirate.” McCarthy insisted

“Pirates will always be my club; it’s a club which I played for after my European adventures.

“I came back home in 2011 to give back something to my own country and they took me in and made me part of their family while everyone was doubting me.

“And when you are part of the family it means you are part of their furniture for life and there’s no escape on that.

“Maybe one day I will coach the team, who knows? Nobody can predict the future and nobody ever thought that I will come back to play in the PSL but it happened.

“So it could be sooner or maybe in 10 years’ time I don’t know but that’s my wish for the future.”
