Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town head coach Stanley Menzo claims luck has deserted his side this season and a clinical forward is all that is lacking from his Absa Premiership squad.

After 13 league fixtures, the Urban Warriors are languishing in 13th, with three wins, four draws and 10 defeats with, scoring ten goals, conceding 15 - resulting in a negative five-goal difference.

While these statistics do not inspire confidence by any stretch of the imagination, Menzo claims the performance levels and the philosophy he's tried to instil at the Cape Town-based club is up to standard.

Having not lost by more than two goals in the league all season, the former Netherlands international goalkeeper says his talented squad have never been dominated by any team and it may need an attacking reinforcement in the next transfer window as the way forward.

"I think if you look at it, no team has really outplayed us this season - it's just mistakes that were causing the problem," he told IOL website.

"So now it’s about keeping things tight, doing the things that we can do, and picking up points where we can."

Ajax travel to the Moses Mabhida Stadium to face title-chasing Kaizer Chiefs who are currently in third, despite facing similar shortcomings at Naturena - without a prolific forward.

And Menzo feels the 0-0 draw away to Champions Bidvest Wits and the 1-0 win over high-flying Chippa United could be the start of generating a winning culture amongst his erratic squad.

"You still have to go out and work hard; you still have to go out and fight; you still have to go out and do the things you have to do. As far as I am concerned, we are still struggling," he said.

"The team showed good mentality against Wits and Chippa, but we are still towards the bottom of the log.

"While those results will give us confidence against Chiefs, I always believe that confidence doesn't give points."
