Cape Town - Ernst Middendorp will mark his 250th game as a Premier Soccer League coach when he takes his Maritzburg United side to Polokwane City tomorrow night seeking a first win in his latest spell at the club.

Maritzburg are one of six South African teams that the 57-year-old German has worked at since he first arrived to work in the country in 2005 to take over Chiefs.

At AmaKhosi he won the Absa (now Nedbank) Cup at the end of his first season but Chiefs failed to retain their league title. The next season he won the SAA Supa 8 (now MTN8) but when other results did not materialise he was fired in March 2007.

Middendorp then went back to Germany to work at Arminia Bielefeld, a club he had coached twice before in the Bundesliga.

It was followed by stints in China and Cyprus before Middendorp returned to South Africa in 2009 to replace Gordon Igesund followed by stints at Lamontville Golden Arrows; Maritzburg for a second time, Bloemfontein Celtic (who had to pay to get him out of his contract with the KwaZulu-Natal club), Chippa United and briefly this season at Free State Stars.

His total record is 82 wins, 82 draws and 85 losses in his 249 league and cup matches in the PSL. The goal tally for Middendorp’s clubs are 277 for and 283 against.
