Cape Town - Orlando Pirates legend Thabo Mngomeni admits that no training is needed ahead of a Soweto derby.

Pirates battle Kaizer Chiefs for bragging rights on Saturday, January 30 at the FNB Stadium in their Absa Premiership clash.

The retired midfielder knows the kind of pressure a player goes through walking onto a field in such an encounter.

Mngomeni explained that music used to get him "pumped up" for these "special type of games" and that by the time he walked onto the field he was "already mad".

Mngomeni, who also represented Manning Rangers, donned the Pirates colours between 1998-2002 and netted over 20 goals for the club before returning to Cape Town.

The 46-year-old revealed that the players often don't even need to train ahead of such games.

"You don't even need to train," Mngomeni exclusively told Sport24.

"You are already pumped up, how can you get tired?"

Mngomeni admitted that winning a Soweto derby all depends on who is most comfortable on the day.

"Some of the players will worry a lot before the game and that is where you lose it.

"If you're comfortable on the day, then you will win"

Kick-off is at 15:30.
