Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates have struggled in the last line of defence so far this season despite having four goalkeepers in their squad.

There has not been a consistent shot stopper for the Buccaneers due to their below par performances.

Despite Brighton Mhlongo, Jackson Mabokgwane and the outgoing Felipe Ovono not living up to expectations between the sticks, Siyabonga Mpontshane is yet to get his chance this season.

With the club supporters urging the technical team to hand the former Platinum Stars keeper an opportunity to prove himself, interim coach Augusto Palacios said every goal minder will get their chance in the upcoming 2016/17 Absa Premiership second round.

Palacios said Mpontshane must continue fighting for his place just like everyone else in the team while also hinting that the Soweto giants intend to forget all their goalkeeping miseries endured last year and focus on the future.

"We want to forget about the past and focus on the future." Palacios told Sport24.

"Every goalkeeper will get their chance to play, not only Mpontshane. We have also signed another Nigerian goalkeeper and he'll be expecting to play to.

"Yes he ( Mpontshane) hasn't been playing but everyone will get their chance to play.

"Our intention is to let everyone feel at home including our new signings. So they must fight for their place in the team.

"Same goes for Mpontshane and all goalkeepers. We're not going to focus on them conceding goals last year.

"We have moved on from that."

Pirates will resume their Absa Premiership duties against Dikwena at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Wednesday.

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:30.
