Cape Town - New Orlando Pirates striker Ayanda Nkosi believes the competition for places in the team will make him a better forward.

The 23-year-old will battle with Thamsanqa Gabuza, Tendai Ndoro and Thabiso Kutumela for a regular berth in the starting team.

Nkosi will be looking to make an impact at the Buccaneers under coach Muhsin Ertugral after joining from Free State Stars during the off-season.

"Competition is part of football. In football there is always competition whether you like it or not," he told KickOff.

"There is always somebody you compete with for a position and all I can do is to work hard to stake my claim in the team.

"I am settling well; everyone has been welcoming. I just hope as we move towards the start of the season we gel more as a team."

Pirates will open the season against Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium on August 24.
