Johannesburg - Itumeleng Khune has not stopped training with the Under-23 side despite his injury scare, the South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed to Sport24.

'Spiderkid' was named in the Under-23 Rio Olympic squad as one of two over-age players alongside club team-mate Eric Mathoho.

Meanwhile, in the lead up to the Olympic Games the goalkeeper wore the gloves for Amaglug-glug against Bidvest Wits on Tuesday.

The Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper was reportedly stretchered off after sustaining an ankle injury in the friendly, but a SAFA official - who wished to remain anonymous - confirmed the news.

"No, there are no worries at all. Itumeleng (Khune) is perfectly fine," revealed the source.

"His reported injury was nothing serious, he even confirmed himself that it was just a bruise on his shin.

"He was kicked by mistake on the shin and then the media made a huge buzz about it.

"But he has been training with the team ever since and there’s nothing to panic."
