Cape Town - Daylon Claasen says he is looking to reinvigorate his career at Bidvest Wits after not having featured as much as he would have liked to in Europe.

Claasen left Ajax Cape Town as a teenager in 2008 after signing for Ajax Amsterdam.

But he failed to play in a competitive match for the Dutch giants and went on to join Belgium top flight club Lierse, also spending a season in Poland with Lierse.

The 27-year-old then joined German second-tier side 1860 München in 2014, where he has spent the last three seasons, but the Klerksdorp-born winger was not a regular starter and left after the club was relegated to the third division.

"I never played that much but I don't like to talk about that. It's in the past and I don't want to dwell on it," he told the SowetanLIVE website of his time in Germany.

"There were a few injuries. Towards the end I had a bit of an Achilles injury. But it's in the past."

Back in his home country nearly 10 years later, Claasen wants to fulfill his potential and is determined to stay focused and professional.

"I am working on (consistency). Every day I'm trying to see what I need to do to stay fit and stay healthy‚” he said.

"Things that I used to do I'm trying not to do them now‚ in terms of my lifestyle and how it can affect me.

"You know‚ like growing up you’ve got more energy, so growing older you know how your body feels if it's tired.

"Moving back‚ I just felt that the three years at 1860 were not the way I would have liked‚ and that this was the right time for coming home.

"South African soccer is evolving. And I just wanted to come back at a stage where I could compete and still improve in SA," he explained.

Now 27-years-old, Claasen last featured for Bafana in 2015.
