Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango is thrilled to finally be making a significant impact in the Absa Premiership.

The 30-year-old has been in South Africa for a decade having donned the colours of SuperSport United and Black Aces.

However, he has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth, until this season which has seen him featuring in 22 games in all competitions, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process.

"I know I have been around for 10 years in the PSL and I have never been part of the awards. For me, it will be an honour to win it for the first time and obviously, it will be nicer if I win it with the league title. The team comes first and I come second," Onyango told the Sowetan Live.

"This season has been great for me. It's been playing on my mind that I have to be on top of my game every time I play.

"It is not an easy task to keep the jersey at Sundowns because there are a lot of quality keepers around. I know that when you are out of the starting XI at Sundowns, it is never easy to come back," he added.

Onyango's form has helped the Brazilians open up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premiership standings.

The club's next action comes on Saturday night when they take on AC Leopards in a CAF Champions League match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
