Cape Town - Despite Mamelodi Sundowns leading by seven points in the Absa Premiership standings, their goalkeeper Denis Onyango is concerned that the chasing pack are making up ground.

The Brazilians went into the 20th round of fixtures nine points clear at the top, but their goalless draw with Golden Arrows on Saturday and Bidvest Wits' 2-1 win over University of Pretoria on Friday cut that lead to seven points.

"As long as we win our games, we will win the league," Onyango said.

"If we start dropping points it's not good for us. We are obviously concerned that the gap between us and the chasing pack decreased but we are focusing on us.

"Everyone fights their own battle. We can't look at teams doing us any favours. But it's still early. There are 10 games remaining. I think that the next five games will determine who wins the league."

The Brazilians' next five league matches are against Mpumalanga Black Aces, SuperSport United, Bloemfontein Celtic, Polokwane City and Jomo Cosmos.

The second-leg of their CAF Champions League clash with Chicken Inn is sandwiched by Aces and Matsatsantsa. They need to overturn a 1-0 loss to advance to the first round.

"Chicken Inn caught us on a break and that's why we lost that match," Onyango, who sat in the stands in Bulawayo, said, "They were sitting back as well like Arrows did. They made it difficult for us to penetrate.

"We still stand a chance to go through even though they are leading at the moment. But it's only halftime. We need to focus and work hard on the return leg."
