Cape Town - Orlando Pirates are reportedly looking to bolster their defensive options by attempting to sign Wits captain Thulani Hlatshwayo during the January transfer window.

With defenders Diamond Thopola and Phetso Maphanga both being added to coach Milutin Sredojevic's squad, it appears the Sea Robbers are prioritizing defensive strengthening for the second half of the campaign.

A report via Soccer Laduma website, reveals that the Buccaneers have increased their interest in Hlatshwayo and a potential move for the Bafana Bafana international could transpire during January.

According to the same publication, the centre-back was linked with a switch to Mayfair ahead of 2017/18 but nothing materialized at that point in time.

It is unclear at this stage whether the struggling Clever Boys will allow the 28-year-old to depart given that Gavin Hunt's men are rooted at the bottom of the Premiership table.

Nonetheless, Pirates are keen to bring the tough tackling player on board to boost a defence which last season was one of the most suspect in the Absa Premiership.

Should the club seal the deal with the Soweto-born star, Sredojevic would possess virtually a new look backline as he seeks to improve the Buccaneers fortunes.
