Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has hinted that Toni Silva believed he was too big a player to be playing his football in the Absa Premiership.

Silva recently left Sundowns a little over six months after having joined them ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Guinea-Bissau international was unable to make his mark in the PSL, making just 11 appearances while scoring twice.

The player has subsequently signed for Al-Ittihad in Egypt with the Brazilians set to pocket close to R4 million in terms of his transfer fee.

It appeared the 25-year-old former Liverpool and Chelsea youth product could not compete with the likes of Themba Zwane, Gaston Sirino, Lebohang Maboe and Phakamani Mahlambi for game-time.

Mosimane told reporters: "Toni Silva did not work out. He did not want to stay. Every time he wanted to go.

"There's Themba Zwane, who has never played for Chelsea and Liverpool, and he gives you more. There's Sirino, there's Maboe.

"You know it's very difficult when you come from Europe to here. It's a different game, high impact. PSL is too fast."
