Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says Tokelo Rantie is not yet up to the fitness levels required to feature for the Brazilians in any official games.

Rantie started for Masandawana against Kaizer Chiefs in a friendly on Saturday but was substituted as he seemed to be struggling for fitness and form.

The Bafana forward signed for Sundowns last month after two years of inactivity and Mosimane says the player needs more minutes in friendly matches to get up to speed with his teammates.

The Sundowns mentor said after the Chiefs encounter: "We wanted to see where Tokelo is and we know that he is not yet ready.

"That's why I said to you, 'let's give him a chance, let's give him a break'.

"The guy has not played football for almost two years and then we give him this big game.

"I think we threw him into the deep end too early, but I have to. He had a good pre-season.

"He has done very well. I have to give him a chance to play."

Masandawana shift their focus to the Telkom Knockout Last 16 clash against AmaZulu at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Kick-off is at 15:00 on Sunday.
