Cape Town - Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe has been honoured by the St Paul Bible Institute with a Doctorate Degree in Sport.

According to the official AmaZulu Twitter account, the recently retired striker received the honorary award on Tuesday morning.

"Siyabonga Nomvethe has been honoured by the St Paul Bible Institute with a Doctorate Degree in Sport, the post read on Twitter.

"Bhele was recognized for his contribution to the game, serving as a role model to youngsters. The PSL’s leading goal scorer. Legend."

The 41-year-old, famous for his longevity in South Africa's top tier of football, had announced back in September his desire to hang up his boots for good at the end of 2018.

However, AmaZulu urged him to keep on playing and help the KwaZulu-Natal club survive their first season back in the Absa Premiership.

Usuthu ended their campaign in 11th place with 31 points - four points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, the 2019/20 Absa Premiership kicks off on the opening weekend of August 3 and 4.
