Cape Town - Orlando Pirates winger Vincent Pule admits the club's players will have to "work harder next season" as they aim to end what is now a five-year trophy drought.

The Buccaneers managed to secure a second-place finish in the 2018/19 Absa Premiership campaign, with champions Sundowns finishing two points clear of the Soweto giants.

However, despite pushing Sundowns all the way to the wire in the battle for the league title, Pirates have no silverware to show for their efforts.

Pule is determined to ensure that does not happen again next season.

"We have to give the supporters something next season. We worked hard this season but unfortunately, we didn't get anything," Pule told IOL Sport.

"We have to work harder next season. We have to collect more points at home next season in the league.

"We have to work hard together to get more than 57 points."

When asked where he felt Pirates felt short, Pule explained: "We pushed hard to win the league after losing to Baroka.

"We played well but unfortunately I think we lost the league when we drew against Cape Town City."

Pule made 26 appearances for Pirates in the 2018/19 Premiership season, scoring eight times and providing three assists.
