Cape Town - Polokwane City came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with struggling Ajax Cape Town at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Urban Warriors dominated the opening half and could well
have been several goals ahead before the hosts equalised a few minutes before
Rise and Shine were better in the second half, although the visitors also had chances to win the game.
Ajax showed their intent from the outset and there were two
early opportunities for Nathan Paulse, one of them saved, the other going wide.
It was the Mother City outfit who drew first blood when
Rheece Evans stormed down the right wing before crossing for Grant Margeman to
convert on 14 minutes.
They nearly doubled their lead a minute later, but Roderick Kabwe fired just wide from Thabo Mosadi's cross.
More opportunities followed for the visiting team as Kabwe
headed wide another Mosadi cross, before the latter fired off target after a
scintillating run into the box.
City had barely threatened the opposition goal, but they got
back on level terms when Rodney Ramagalela converted in the 39th minute after
being played in by Sipho Jembula.
Ramagalela fired wide just after the break as the home side
showed more purpose in attack, while Jabu Maluleke missed with a header.
Mosadi then sent a volley narrowly wide for Ajax, before
Jody February made an excellent save shortly after in the 72nd minute to deny
Ramagalela at the other end.
The Urban Warriors could have netted the winner three
minutes from time, but Aubrey Funga sent his shot straight at George Chigova.
Both teams are yet to win in 2017 - Ajax have lost two and drawn one, while Polokwane have drawn three.
