Cape Town - Sacked Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson says he is unable to understand why the club decided to let him go, despite some promising signs on the pitch.

Johnson led the club to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages and the side only missed out on a top eight finish in the Premiership on the final day of the 2016/17 season.

However, a 3-0 defeat to Tunisian outfit, CS Sfaxien, in the CCC appears to have been the last straw for Dikwena's heirachy who released Johnson from his duties soon after.

As such, the 58-year-old admitted his surprise at the decision.

"As a coach I feel I did more than enough, looking at where we were, how we did it and when we did it," he said as quoted by the SowetanLIVE website.

"I am trying to digest what has happened to me over the last five days and I'm waiting to see what my next option is. I can't put my finger on it.

"I think the club did more than enough in the (transfer) market. (But) I don't think the market was there to work with.

"We were happy with the squad and I wanted to give those players who finished third in the league last season a chance to go play on the continent. I feel the youngsters did well."
