Cape Town - Wayne Sandilands has revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing for a war for ahead of their CAF Champions League tie against Zamalek on Sunday.
Speaking to IOL ahead of the two teams' crucial Group B encounter at the Petro Sport Stadium, Sandilands highlighted the White Knights' vast experience and insisted that Downs were prepared for the hostile environment in Egypt.
"Zamalek are a very good team and have a lot of experience among their ranks, so we have to prepare ourselves for war," Sandilands said.
"Against Setif in Algeria, we proved that hostility doesn't affect us. Come Sunday we know it’s not going to be welcoming. It’s not going to be easy but we have had good preparations and good experience with the Setif game.
"It brings the best in you when you are in environments that put you on high alert when there’s lot of negativity towards you. We can sort of feed off that. We want to get as many points as we can."
The former Platinum Stars shot-stopper, 32, has been in fine-form for Masanadawana in the absence of regular goalkeepers, Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene.
Sandilands, who was rewarded for his excellent performances with a starting berth in both Champions League matches against Setif and Enyimba, says that the reigning Absa Premiership champions want to add the Champions League title to their list of accolades.
"We want to go all the way. Why bother being in a tournament if you don’t believe or want to compete for the trophy? We believe we can compete and the games we have played have proven to us that we can compete," he added.
"We believe we can go all the way and we want to put the star on the badge. We have the mental capacity and we have the football on the pitch to match that."
Kick-off is at 23:05.
