Cape Town - Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic has suggested that Thamsanqa Sangweni has not been performing up to the standard required at the club.

The midfielder signed from Chippa United ahead of the start of the season, but has struggled to break into the Pirates team, making just three PSL appearances.

According to Sredojevic, this can change if he raises his game.

"He's one of the midfielders competing for a place in central midfield," the Serb told Goal.com website.

"The moment he satisfies the standards and the criteria that we are demanding, then he will be in contention.

"As things stand, it's up to him to fight for his place."

Pirates currently lie second on the Premiership table, one point behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

They will return to action against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday, April 4 at Orlando Stadium.

Should Sangweni fail to make the side, his spell without a league appearance will reach four months.
