Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs captain Siphiwe Tshabalala has urged Amakhosi fans to be patient with Steve Komphela as the club looks set to finish the season without a trophy.

Komphela has led Chiefs to two finals in the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout but lost both while the gap between them and Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Premiership table is an intimidating 13 points.

"The fans are not happy, obviously, simply because of the results," Tshabalala said.

"My message to them is that they need to be with the team through difficult times.

"They must just also give the coach more time to work with us. We have a good coach, someone who is very intelligent and someone who relates well with the players.

"He brings that father figure in the team. Sadly he will be judged by the results but personally, when I make my own debrief on the coach, I would say that he has done well in the sense that he has been with the team for six months and took us to two finals, sadly we lost both of them.

"We are not in a worse-off situation in the league. We still have a chance in CAF. As players, we are fully behind him. Whatever happens, as a captain, I also take some of the blame for any actions that will take place."
