Cape Town - Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe has bid farewell to his team-mates on social media after it was reported that the Premiership champions had decided against extending his contract after three years.

After being heavily involved with the Wits first team in his first two seasons with the club, the 27-year-old struggled for game time during the 2016/17 campaign, and only played two games - starting one and coming off the bench in the other - in the Nedbank Cup.

And, having been told he won't be retained by the newly crowned league champions, Shongwe took to Instagram to say his goodbyes to his team-mates.

"This was first game at Wits and I'm grateful for everything they have done for me," he said alongside a photo of himself making his debut for the club.

"I enjoyed being with them for three years. I wish them all the best. Only God knows what's next for me.

"To my team-mates, I love you guys. [we will meet again in the tunnel," wrote the defensive midfielder, capped four times by Bafana Bafana.

According to KickOff website, Shongwe said he was not sure where he would be playing next season, but could be heading to Polokwane City.

"It might be Polokwane City or any other team, but it must be a team where there is life. Next season I will be playing where there is life," he added.

Despite not featuring at all during Wits' triumphant league campaign, Shongwe, who joined the students from Mamelodi Sundowns, has also attracted interest from Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
