Cape Town - Stellenbosch FC and Maritzburg United failed to get their first victory of the Absa Premiership season as they played out a goalless draw at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams came into the fixture with one point from two games played so far this campaign.

The Team of Choice made the better start to the game as Thabiso Kutumela fired a shot wide in the first attempt of the game.

The home side, who have still not scored a goal this season, had two chances to break the deadlock in the first half but Maritzburg goalkeeper Richard Ofori kept out Jarrod Moroole and Sibusiso Mthethwa.

The visitors though will feel hard done by as Daylon Claasen came closest after the interval but he was denied by the upright.

Both teams pushed for the winner but it was Maritzburg's Rushine De Reuck who almost won it at the death but his header was cleared of the goal line.

Both sides had to settle for a point each and have identical records after three games played this season.
