Cape Town - SuperSport United overcame University of Pretoria 2-0 in an Absa Premiership clash at the Tuks Stadium in Tshwane on Sunday afternoon.

It took only three minutes for Matsatsantsa to break the deadlock through Michael Boxall, who beat AmaTuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi with a decent finish.

AmaTuks forward Mnyamane tried to restore parity seven minutes later, but his attempt was easily saved by SuperSport shot-stopper Ronwen Williams.

But Bafana Bafana international defender Clayton Daniel doubled SuperSport's lead with a great header in the 14th minute.

SuperSport were dominating possession and in the 25th minute teenage winger Fagrie Lakay unleashed a shot from range which sailed over the cross-bar.

Six minutes later, New Zealand international and SuperSport striker Jeremy Brockie was brilliantly denied by Zimbabwean goal-minder Arubi from close range.

Matsatsantsa were leading 1-0 at half-time in a partly cloudy afternoon in Tshwane.

Both teams made changes at the beginning of the second-half. AmaTuks introduced Thabo Mosadi for Getaneh Kedebe.

Gordon Igesund pulled out South Africa under-23 international Denwin Farmer for former Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo.

AmaTuks' only serious threat at Matsatsantsa goal in the second-half came in the 67th minute when Mnyamane forced Williams into a good save.

Nevertheless, SuperSport emerged 2-0 winners on the day thanks to their two first-half goals.
