Swallows FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United in their DStv Premiership encounter at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Both sides showed positive intent in the opening exchanges as they attacked each other, but it was the Dube Birds who drew first blood as Ruzaigh Gamildien found the back of the net for the hosts with sensational half volley.
The Chilli Boys increased their tempo after going a goal behind, knowing they would need to quickly break down an impressive Birds defence before the game got away from them.
Swallows applied some pressure on Chippa as they made their way into the box where Isaac Nhlapo was on hand to intervene for the travellers.
The pressure grew for Chippa as Swallows won a corner kick which was directed just wide, to the relief of goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali.
Dan Maselela's charges gave the home team a scare after the half-time break as Andile Mbenyane's curling shot was tipped over by Virgil Vries.
Brendan Truter's men were back on the front foot as the second half wore on and created a few openings but just seemed to lack that killer instinct to put the game away.
Chippa protested a call on the goalline in the 69th minute when Vries made a clutch save as the visitors claimed that the ball had crossed the line, but the scoreline did not change.
In the 75th minute the Chilli Boys made it all square once more as they netted their opening goal to make it 1-1. Kurt Lentjies was the man of the moment as he hammered home a shot from outside the box.
Chippa came close again in the last few minutes as Mhlongo's volley went over the bar before Lentjies sent a shot just off target as the game played out to a draw.
Swallows are yet to lose a match this season as they currently remain in second place ahead of their top of the table clash against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at 15:00).
Meanwhile, Chippa United entertain Black Leopards at 15:30 on the same day.
