Thobejane: We can't have rugby scores in football

Cape Town - Baroka FC coach Kgoloko Thobejane says there should have been more goals in the Absa Premiership fixture against Cape Town City but realises they aren't playing rugby.

The eccentric coach of the league leaders is known for his unorthodox comments in interviews, but with his recent statement he insinuated the entertainment value and attack-minded football on display on Tuesday deserved more than the two goals in the 1-1 draw - for the fans at the Cape Town Stadium.

Ronin Ngalande's stunner and Craig Martin's equaliser in the second-half proved to be the only goals in the top-of-the-table clash as the visitors remained in first place, while City failed to improve on their third place spot.

"It was a good game," he said. "We started well, it's just that we should have punished them, but they came back.

"At least in the second half, we managed to play football, because this thing of just kicking the ball up[field] and running, I'm not sure... you can't be perfect on long balls unless you know how to make short passes - you have to master the short passes before you play it long.

"Even though we created some clear-cut chances and half-chances, we missed scoring opportunities from both sides, and that's the name of the game," he said. "It's not like rugby, where you score more than 10 goals – it's two or one in a game of football."

"It was not a fair result, from both sides," he said.

"They should have scored two or three, and we should have scored two or three goals. If it was 2-2, maybe it would have been fair. We created enough, but this is the name of the game."
