Cape Town - Baroka coach Kgoloko Thobejane wasn't happy with his side despite their 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in their promotion/relegation play-off clash on Saturday.

Olaleng Shaku opened the scoring at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on just two minutes ahead of second from Mdatsene Mduduzi with 84 minutes played.

The result means that Baroka could ensure they retain their Premiership status if Sammy Troughton's Stellenbosch fail to beat Black Leopards on Wednesday.

Baroka would need a point against Leopards next Saturday to keep them in the Premiership.

Speaking after his side's win, Thobejane said: "Yes (I was unhappy). Going to Leopards we need better than this. As you can remember, when we played against Black Leopards, in the first-half it was all Baroka and the second-half it was Leopards.

“We want to see ourselves dominating in both halves and we don't want the mentality of getting ourselves in the situation that ‘now we've to defend, defend, defend’. Because it is not good to defend without the ball.

“The best way of defending is to have the ball, that is the only way of defending. If don't have the ball, you can run all over after the opponent but you can't make it.”

Stellenbosch coach Sammy Troughton, meanwhile, felt securing promotion to the South African top-flight via the play-offs was always going to be a tough ask after a gruelling season.

"We just didn’t threaten enough. We never asked any real questions, you know," he told KickOff website.

“Even with their defensive shape, we couldn’t really penetrate or break them down. We started running out of ideas.”

He added: "It’s been a long season with up and downs. A change of name, a change of venue and for us to have gotten ourselves in this position in the Play-offs, was great.

“I didn’t like what I saw on Saturday. I expected one more push but perhaps it was one step too far."
