Cape Town - Cape Town City will be looking to get their title challenge back on track when they welcome Free State Stars to the Cape Town Stadium on Friday.

Both teams come into the encounter at the back of damaging defeats for contrasting reasons. The third-placed Citizens fell to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Maritzburg United, which saw them miss out on top spot.

Meanwhile, 14th-placed Ea Lla Koto lost at home to Polokwane City, stretching their winless run to four league games and leaving them a single point above the drop zone.

City coach Eric Tinkler is still upbeat about the newly-formed club's chances of claiming an historic title as they trail leaders Bidvest Wits by two points.

"There's so much that can happen and there are four games left‚ and we're just going to focus on the extra one now and try and get the result against Free State Stars," Tinkler told SowetanLIVE.

"What is important is that we need to bounce back and bring the guys back to earth‚ and hopefully we see a better performance in the next game."

Serame Letsoaka bemoaned the loss to Rise and Shine which he targeted as a winnable fixture, and now admits the run-in against in-form domestic rivals will be tricky.

"The league is getting tougher and tougher. Our next opponents are Cape Town City and they want to win the league," Letsoaka told the club's official website.

In team news, Tinkler welcomes back defender Tshepo Gumede from a one-match suspension. There are no new injuries or suspensions for either club to contend with for the clash in the Mother City.
