Cape Town - SuperSport United head coach Eric Tinkler feels his side were disrespected during the CAF Confederation Cup final defeat to TP Mazembe on Saturday.

Matsatsansa failed to overturn their first-leg defeat after playing to a 0-0 draw at the Lucas Moripe Stadium which resulted in the 2-1 aggregate defeat to the DRC giants.

As it happened: SuperSport 0-0 Mazembe

It was the Ravens' third consecutive continental title but the fixture was marred by Kabaso Chongo's gesture to the SuperSport bench upon receiving a straight red card for a horror challenge.

While Tinkler finished on the losing side for the third consecutive time in a continental final, the former Bafana Bafana midfielder insists his hunger for success is now stronger than ever.

"The motivation to win a continental title is always there," Tinkler said in reference to the 2013 CAF African Champions League and 2015 Confederation Cup defeats with Orlando Pirates.

"But also sometimes, certain things that happened today that I think are to the detriment of African football if I must be entirely honest.

"I think that we are moving in the wrong direction if we continue with it," he added.

"But the motivation is there. I want to win things on the continent. Obviously, there are things that are happening that makes one extremely despondent on a personal level. Today we weren’t shown respect."

With reference to the fixture, Tinkler admits his side didn't deserve to win the game based on the performance levels of the two sides.

"I don't think that we really did that enough over the 90 minutes period. Yes, we had a couple of chances but unfortunately, we didn't put the ball in the back of the net. I felt that in that final third we didn't produce enough quality to create those opportunities to obviously get that goal."
