Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler is hoping that Saturday's surprise 1-0 defeat Jomo Cosmos will count for nothing when his side faces Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Sipho Mngomezulu converted on 75 minutes to hand Cosmos a narrow victory at Olen Park on Saturday evening, a result that leaves Pirates languishing in 11th place in the Absa Premiership standings ahead of the highly anticipated clash with Amakhosi.

The Buccaneers have now recorded just one win in their last five fixtures, heaping extra pressure on Tinkler and his team ahead of the Soweto derby.

"We wanted to go into the derby on a victory," Tinkler was quoted as saying by Sowetan Live.

"But that has happened in the past - we've lost then gone into the derby and performed extremely well.

"Tonight's three points was very important for us - that's the disappointment for me."

He added: "Obviously the players are extremely disappointed - including those who made the individual errors.

"We've just got to keep working very hard and believing we're doing the right thing. I don't think it's a case of us playing poorly. Tonight we played quite well."
