Twitter reaction: Sundowns crowned African champions

Cape Town - In the most unlikeliest fashion, Mamelodi Sundowns won the CAF Champions League - and sent Twitter into a frenzy.

Sundowns became only the second South African team to win the CAF tournament when they beat Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate in the final.

After being eliminated from the competition then reinstated, Sundowns became the 26th different club in Africa to lift the title.

The Brazilians soaked up the pressure throughout the second-leg encounter with the 60 000 crowd, predominantly Zamalek fans, making life uncomfortable for the visitors.

However, Pitso Mosimane's charges held on to their lead as the 52-year-old became the first South African-born coach to win the CAF Champions League.

Following the victory in Egypt, Sundowns will pocket $1.5 million as well as securing a spot at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December.

Sundowns are expected to return to South Africa on Wednesday, October 26.
