Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town reclaimed their top eight spot from Golden Arrows after beating Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday night.

Apart from the opening 20 minutes which Ajax dominated, it was Celtic who had more of the play and who created more opportunities throughout the game, but they were let down by some wasteful finishing.

Ajax were off the perfect start when Prince Nxumalo rounded goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb and scored in an empty net after a great move involving Ayanda Makua and Bantu Mzwakali.

Mzwakali doubled the advantage when he combined with Nxumalo to cut right through the Celtic defence before running the ball into the net after the latter's pass had taken Tignyemb out of the equation.

Phunya Sele Sele had two good opportunities in quick succession to pull a goal back but Fiston Abduol was denied by a fine save by home keeper Brandon Peterson while Lyle Lakay smashed a shot high and wide after breaking down the left flank.

Celtic continued to probe for a goal after the restart and twice went close when Abduol and Alfred Ndengane both sent headers marginally wide.

For the most part though the Cape side's defence held firm, and when there was another chance, seven minutes from time, Deon Hotto dragged his shot wide from the left hand side of the box.

Lantshene Phalane was inches away with a low drive from the 20-yards out in the 87th minute, but after that Ajax were able to hold on without any issues to see out the game and pick up a third successive league win.
