Vries swaps Maritzburg for Baroka

Cape Town - Namibian international goalkeeper Virgil Vries has left Maritzburg United to join Limpopo top-flight club Baroka FC.

Baroka conceded the third most goals in the league last season; 43, most of which were let in by Oscarine Masuluke, who featured in 26 games.

Vries has not been a regular first choice keeper with Maritzburg over his five seasons at the club but did start 20 league matches last season, his most consistent run since 2014/15, when he played 23 times.

However, the 26-year-old was released by the KZN side at the end of the 2016/17 campaign and has now surfaced at Baroka, who last month escaped relegation via the play-offs.

Vries' agent Jazzman Mahlakgane, told the Soccer Laduma website that the goal-minder has penned a two-year deal and added, "I am pleased and happy that the so-called small teams are making big signings and keeping in line with other competitive teams in the PSL."
