Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana striker Mark Williams believes Themba Zwane would be better served to remain at Mamelodi Sundowns, rather than join Amakhosi.

Speculation has been mounting that the 28-year-old could make the switch from Chloorkop to Naturena as he is approaching the last six months of his current contract with the Brazilians.

Soccer Laduma report that Zwane's representatives and Sundowns have been locked in negotiations for several weeks, however, no agreement on a new contract has yet to be reached.

As such, the Glamour Boys are said to be monitoring the situation with an eye to potentially making a move for the attacking midfielder in the January transfer window. Nonetheless, Williams takes the view there are more reasons to stay with Downs than there are to leave.

He told the publication, "He should rather stay at Sundowns or look for a team like maybe Cape Town City, where he can add some value to the club. I think Chiefs already have players like him.

"Look, maybe a team like Bidvest Wits, but my honest opinion, I think he should make the move that is going to set him well financially. If Chiefs are going to pay him the money, then yes, he should go. Or, if any other team is prepared to pay the big bucks for him, then that should be his first priority."

"He has to put finance first. All these players are putting money first...I've been there. He could still make it until 30 and then try to get another better financial deal. But Sundowns is the club who pays well. Then why leave?"
