Cape Town - Burundi international midfielder Papy Faty has been released by Bidvest Wits amid persistent concerns over his health.

Faty's heart issues have seen him play just twice in the last nine months for the Students, as he collapsed on two separate occasions on the field of play.

It was expected that the midfielder would retire after the second scare, but according to recent reports in Soccer Laduma, the 26-year-old will continue playing football.

Once regarded as one of the most proficient deep-lying playmakers in the league, Faty will now look to rekindle his career after proving his fitness with his national team.

The former Trabzonspor midfielder scored 11 goals and registered eight assists in 84 games for the Clever Boys.
