Zwane: Sundowns not a one-man team

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has moved to dispell talk that his performances have been carrying a lackluster Brazilians outfit this season.

It may seem crazy to suggest that Sundowns are having a bad season considering they are sitting third in the Premiership standings and remain one of the few teams with a chance of catching runaway leaders Kaizer Cheifs.

However, they are the two-time defending champions and were strong favourites to claim a third league title in a row at the start of the campaign, before Kaizer Chiefs became virtually unbeatable.

Pitso Mosimane is one of the finest head coaches in South Africa and has built a team that came to be considered one of the strongest on the continent, let alone South Africa, after they won the CAF Champions League in 2016.

All this means that anything less than success is seen as a disappointment for the club.

Even among all this, Zwane has been seen as one of the few shining lights for the Brazilians this season with Mosimane himself admitting that Zwane was the one who "plays the music" for his side.

Despite the lofty praise, Zwane was adamant there is no way he could do it on his own.

"Sundowns is not one man's team," Zwane said, according to Kickoff.

"Whether Mshishi is there or not, they will win. We have lost a couple of good players [in the past] but Sundowns continued to win cups.

"I can start the piano but you must understand, I can't do it alone. There are people who help me. The people who mark for me, they make things easy for me."
