“It was a difficult game as we knew it would be,” said Baxter.
“It was positive in terms of that we got a lot of players to play who we wanted to get some time in their legs, we gave them that chance.
“It was disappointing in the discipline of the team in terms of doing the basics.
“The temptation when you play against, on paper, ‘weaker teams’ is not feeling the need to do the basics.
“We worked hard in our first defender pressing and after that I think the compact and the shape of the team could have been a lot better.
“Next round is what we need and next round is what we got.
“We took a few too many touches at the wrong time all the way through the game – the defenders taking too many touches so we didn’t start the attack properly, the midfielders taking too many touches so we didn’t have the quality possession we should have.
“We played well in patches, but as a general exercise I am happy that a couple of players got a full game and I am happy to be in the next round.”
