The defending PSL champions and the Namibian League winners will battle in the competition’s preliminary round first leg at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys’ PSL triumph last season was their golden ticket to the much-anticipated club continental showpiece.

As the Namibian side’s aspirations would be to upset Chiefs, the South African representatives will be hoping to emulate their perennial rivals Orlando Pirates’ success in the 10-month long tournament.

The Buccaneers overcame all the odds to go all the way to the final before losing to the competition’s all-time record holders, Al Ahly, 3-1 on aggregate.

The Egyptian giants have have won the tournament eight times.

Heading into the eventt, Chiefs will be boosted by the arrival of Katlego Mphela and George Maluleka.

“Killer” joined the Naturena-based team from Mamelodi Sundowns on deadline day of the Premier Soccer League transfer window period, while Maluleka signed for the club in late December from SuperSport United.

The duo were recruited to boost the squad ahead of the continental showpiece.

The second leg of this encounter will be played in Windhoek on February 15.

Kick-off for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 20:00.
