Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns have crashed out of the CAF Champions League following a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Sunday afternoon.

Bafana Bastyle went into the qualifying first round, second-leg tie looking to build on their 1-0 victory in the first leg.

However, the match didn't go according to plan for Pitso Mosimane's men as they slumped to a bitterly disappointing 3-1 defeat in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Prior to the clash, Zambia international Rainford Kalaba warned Downs that Mazembe would be aiming to make life difficult for them, and that is exactly what transpired.

In fact, it was Kalaba who broke the deadlock on 36 minutes, after Mazembe had a goal ruled out for offside in the 28th minute.

And the hosts claimed the aggregate lead just moments before the half-time break, Mbwana Samatta netting the all-important goal.

While the visitors produced a much-improved performance after the interval, they were unable to get the better of their opponents, who stretched further ahead in the 57th minute thanks to Roger Assale.

Youngster Percy Tau pulled one back for Sundowns in the 84th minute after being teed up by Mame Niang, but it was a case of too little, too late as the Ravens held on in the remaining minutes to secure a memorable victory.
